Pierce Leads Celtics to Victory

The Boston Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-92 in Game 7 of the 2008 Eastern Conference Semifinals on Sunday night at TD Garden to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Paul Pierce led the way for the Celtics with 21 points, 45 rebounds, and 63 assists, while LeBron James averaged 32.3 points in three games against the Celtics.

The Celtics held a 10-7 edge over the Cavs in the regular season, but the Cavs won the first two games of the series in Cleveland. The Celtics rallied to win the next three games in Boston, but the Cavs evened the series with a win in Game 6 in Cleveland.

In Game 7, the Celtics jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Pierce was unstoppable, scoring 15 points in the first half to help the Celtics build a 50-35 lead. The Cavs cut the lead to 79-74 with 5:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

The Celtics will now face the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pistons defeated the Orlando Magic in six games to advance to the Finals.

Pierce was named the MVP of the series after averaging 26.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. He was a force on both ends of the court, and he was the main reason why the Celtics were able to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
