Chicago Tornado Outbreak: Multiple Tornadoes Touch Down, Causing Damage and Uprooting Trees
Eleven Tornadoes Confirmed in Chicago Area
On Wednesday, at least 11 tornadoes touched down in various parts of the Chicago area, brought on by a powerful storm system. By 10 pm, the threat of tornadoes had subsided in Cook County, according to the National Weather Service.
Tornado Damage Survey Underway
The National Weather Service has dispatched teams to assess the damage caused by the tornadoes. Preliminary reports indicate that at least three tornadoes struck the Chicago area late on Wednesday, damaging homes and uprooting trees.
Teams are also surveying storm damage in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, where additional tornadoes may have occurred during the storm.
